PROBLEM:
My brick has developed a cloudy residue all over it. What could this be? How do I remove the residue?
DESCRIPTION:
You may be experiencing water stains to your wall. Water staining occurs when minerals from the water is deposited on the face of the brick. This often results from water sprinklers which constantly are wetting the wall. In the pictures below, you can see the mineral deposits that have accumulated over time. Pictures B and C show the improvement gained through properly cleaning and sealing the wall.

SOLUTION:
If sprinklers are wetting the wall, adjust the sprinkler heads to reduce the amount of water sprayed on the wall.

Clean the brick with either PROSOCO Heavy Duty Concrete Cleaner or Custom Masonry Cleaner as per the manufacturer's recommendations.

To reduce the possibility of reoccurrence, apply a water repellant to surface. In most cases this would be Weather Seal PD. Extremely porous surfaces may require the use of Custom Masonry Sealer as manufactured by PROSOCO. Please adhere to manufacturer's recommendation in applying either of these sealers.

Test the solution on a small portion of the wall before treating entire area.

Pictures B and C above provide an example of a test panel that was cleaned and then sealed with the Custom Masonry Sealer. This test panel was created approximately two years prior to this picture being taken!

DO NOT USE MURIATIC ACID!
